Packing, Shipping, and Moving; Logistics oh what fun!

Apartment or house hunting is not easy but regardless of where you live it can be quite fun. As I am packing up my entire life, and getting rid of things that I won’t be able to use or need in my new life I am struggling with the logistics of this monstrous move. I understand how I am going to get my things to France, I am very aware of the company we are going to use. My trouble is all in my head. My anxiety is trying so hard to rain on my parade. Sometimes at night, it does!

When you decide that you want to live somewhere you start to imagine how it is going to look. You start to build the “place” you are going to live inside your head and that is how you base your search. However, sometimes it isn’t how it turns out. Especially when you realize there an is overwhelming amount of information out there for you.

Thank goodness I am not breaking new ground in this area. There have been others who have made this tremendous move, with a few differences.

I have found that is a great source for agencies, and websites listing rentals and purchases. That has taken the headache out of doing random google searches.

The funny part about moving to Europe is the whole thing is a catch 22. Meaning you can’t move your things unless you have an address, and you can’t have an address unless you make 3x the amount they are asking and you have proof you have a job. Then there is the factor of the bank account. You have to have one of these in order to do anything. Thankfully some banks allow you to open one online but in order to do so you must have/prove you have a job! See a catch 22! But one must look at it like an adventure. Just because you feel like you are going round and round doesn’t mean it is not worth it. Trust me I have struggled with this for several weeks/months/years now.

Now back to the logistics. There is a lot to think about here. When you are planning on moving you must know about Cubic feet and square meters, because that is the size you will need to think about when you request a pallet or cargo hold. The best part is if you do a simple google search you will find that it is not going to cost millions of dollars to send your precious belongings by boat to your destination.

I would say my may concern/hang-up is letting go of control. I am literally at the mercy of others. When moving from state to state you have control, even when hiring movers.

As I continue my search for a place to live, I am biting my perfectly manicured nails, waiting to hear back from an agency. I am focusing on the “dream” and “returning to my roots” in order to keep my anxiety at bay.

Check back soon as I continue talking about my epic move to France!

How long is the estimated time of arrival by boat with three COVID-19 restrictions?

For me, it was two days by plane. For a boat…I am not sure if boats are even operating right now. You would have to contact the American Consulate in the country you want to visit to find out about travel restrictions.
