That’s right DIY Tree of Life art from Twilight, as in the movie Twilight. I know what? But trust me it is not what you think, in fact, I kind of freestyled my little copy art.
You see when I first saw the artwork, the Tree of Life, in Breaking Dawn I instantly thought it would look great in my house. The problem was, no one was selling it. Then I moved to France, and of course, I could find the tree of life all day long, the problem was I wasn’t finding what I wanted.
The solution came from Bob Ross.
You see I do not fancy myself an artist, and I feel firmly I can not create “happy little trees.” But one day I was watching a documentary on Netflix about Bob Ross, and suddenly felt inspired.
Armed with my American confidence I jumped on the bus and headed to my art supply store.
Luckily, the flea market had been here the previous weekend so I was able to purchase an old book, the pages were already aged for me!
how I created my DIY Tree of Life Art from Twilight
My first step was to coat the pages in mod podge vintage. Since the pages from the book I bought at my local flea market were quite fragile I used a very delicate paintbrush instead of a brush with hard bristles.
This stuff dries pretty quickly, so all I had to do was wait, and eat lunch.
Yes, that’s right I had a snack!
The next step was to use my white acrylic paint to create a tree. At first I really really wanted to draw a tree using a white colored pencil. However, the pages were not allowing me to do this, so I had to freestyle.
Using examples of the tree of life that I found online, I went rogue. I don’t know what happened but I just started working. Like Bob Ross said, “There are no mistakes, only happy accidents.”
Sand and Sisal is where I got the inspiration to try this out for myself. Check it out here!
Armed with this I allowed myself to tap into my inner artist and painted my heart’s desire.
To my delight and amazement, this project was quite easy. I rather enjoyed the simplicity of creating this work of art, with the piece giving the look of difficult work.
At the end of the day, do something you admire and love. Do something that makes you happy, it is all about what makes. you happy!
