Fall is my favorite time of the year. This is when the world just seems that much more colourful. The leaves, as a friend once described, look like they are on fire. The colours may be “muted” as some would say but they are more vibrant. As though mother nature is giving one last hurrah before the winter comes.
For me, there is something magical about the changing of seasons. I am a little biased about fall and winter, I am from Oregon! But honestly, the magic of this time of year is inspiring. The way one season gives way to another gives us pause and many of us forget to take a moment to really enjoy it.
However, the changing of the season provides another new beginning. The world around us is ever-changing, reminding us that change is a good thing.
When that happens I feel it makes us feel more hopeful and more inspired. The changes serve as a reminder that regardless of any worries, disappointments, or woes when have gone through so far, we have been given another chance to live the life we want.
Of course, each season comes with its own personality, which brings me to the point of this post, my absolute favorite things about FALL!
my top 10 favorite things About fall.
There is nothing that I love more than sweaters. In fact, I am pretty sure that I own about twenty. This of course does not include hoodies. The reason sweaters are such a staple in the fall and winter is because, for me, they provide the ultimate warmth and comfort. This fashion item is perfect to ward of chill, look cozy and of course, look good doing it!
Boots are just a staple and should be! Why? For some reason when putting on a pair of boots one feels more confident, dare I say bolder? I honestly feel that boots make me feel and look taller. Even when I am wearing cute galoshes.
3. Warm Drinks
On a cold morning or even during a particularly cold evening there is nothing more soothing, cozier, and comforting than a warm drink. Click here to read all about my favorite warm drinks! Of course, I don’t need an excuse to have coffee but I do like that I can create my own warm drinks. Such as my own version of Pumpkin spice latte, or tea!
The most versatile eatable decorative item of the fall. The almighty pumpkin is one of the ultimate symbols of changing from summer to fall. Aside from pumpkin lattes, there are also pumpkin muffins, pumpkin pancakes, sweet tablescapes and so much more.
Is there anything better than sitting on the couch, with a glass of wine and a really good book all bundled up in a soft, luxurious blanket? The answer of course is No. Well, it is for me. I love sitting on the couch, even watching tv, wrapped up in a soft sheep blanket, or even my knitted Harry Potter patch blanket. I get a real sense of warmth and home when I am wrapped like a baby in the fall.
6. Fall Scented Candles
The smell of warm vanilla, spiced pumpkin, and caramel apples are the essence of fall. This may sound funny, but whenever I smell sandalwood and pumpkin I am immediate transported to my favorite moment when. I was reading my favorite book “Discover of Witches.” The scent not only brings warm memories but also really sets the gentleness and warmth of the fall season.
7. Cooler Weather
This time of year the weather dips down just enough to allow you to bust out with the sweater but not quite time for the puffer jacket. However, at night time this is when you can layer up. Unless you are someplace where the weather stays the same. Again, as an Oregonian, I was privileged to dips in the weather around August. And although you may not need to get out the scarves and beanies just yet, this is the time to enjoy small walks around your neighborhood and watch the leaves as they fall.
If there is one thing I love cooking from scratch that one thing would be soups. I love building on the flavor and creating a soup that tastes like home. There is just something so comforting and warm, and homey about eating soup on a cold night or even a cold afternoon.
9. Television shows return
The dry spell between the months of May and September seems to just drag. Sure you might be one of the lucky ones out and about being busy or you may be someone who enjoys unwinding in front of the television. Either way, there is nothing to watch. When September rolls around you get the opportunity to watch new shows and see what happens next in your favorite shows after the season finale.
I may not be able to pick out the perfect summer outfit, in fact, I just flat out don’t know how to dress in the summer. Give me fall and winter weather! That is when I come alive. Layering is just so comfy and there are so many possibilities to what you. can layer. For instance, you can wear a plaid button-up underneath a thin sweater, and then atop that a puffer vest. If you get warm throughout the day just remove a layer.
