My Go-to Dairy Alternatives

A few years ago I was a vegetarian, who dabbled a little in vegan. I felt it was the best choice for me for many reasons, reasons which I will get into another time. After the birth of my first son I have had issues with dairy, so every now and then I reach for dairy alternatives. I know that some people, my husband included, think I should just grab a pill to help me with my sensitivity but I personally don't want to do that since my sensitivity is not that alarming. When I use the dairy alternatives, I really do notice a difference. Especially when it comes[...]

French Girl Picks: Walking

When I lived in Oregon everyone and their mother walked or ran, no matter the weather. Which I found to be inspiring. I used to run like crazy in NOLA (New Orleans), but as I've gotten older I realized that running was causing damage to my hips and knees. Since moving to France I have done more walking than I have ever done in my entire life. Even when I was younger before I started driving. I have also climbed more stairs than I ever thought possible. Before moving I discovered I was doing something seriously wrong with the way I was eating and exercising.[...]

French Girl Picks: My Summer List

It is no secret that I am not a huge fan of summer. There are reasons why I am not a fan, the biggest being the heat. I am not happy when I am hot, I turn into a giant baby! I don't like to sweat, and I really don't like tanning. This is hilarious because I tan like a golden goddess. Thanks to my mother who is naturally brown, I have a yellow hue to my skin tone. When I sit in the sun, for just a few minutes my skin turns a soft warm brown. Another thing that is going to make you roll your eyes, is my hair. Somehow I get these natural blonde highlights tha[...]

Travel Diaries: Maintenon

Despite being so big, this sweet chateau is romantic and cosy! When I stepped on the TER bound for Maintenon I didn't know what I was going to encounter. Based on what I knew historically about Madame Francoise, I figured I would see a lot of Catholic religious items and a very quiet colorless decor. Why? Again, based on what I have read about her being a deeply pious woman. Walking just a short distance from the gare I was pleasantly greeted with forests, the sound of babbling water, and whistling trees waving softly in the wind. Instantly I fell in[...]

French Girl Picks: Let it Go

The way to heal is to learn how to let go Over the years I have learned one thing, we as humans are incredibly stubborn. We also hold on to so much, it is very hard to just let go. If we could easily let go and forgive we would all be set free. But of course something always happens. When something, anything happens good or bad it touches a place inside of you that has been there as long as you can remember, and instead of trying to deal with it, you push it back down, burying it further inside of you until the next something happens. My first angr[...]

How I Reset When Life Becomes TOO Much

Last month, I was given a gut punch by my boss. He didn't want me around anymore. I felt a deep unbearable ache that I couldn't push aside, as I normally would. I was desperate to curl into a ball and cry. But I am here in France with two kids, and my husband is in the States. At that moment I felt as though I was going to fall over like a house of cards. I reached out to a colleague and a lawyer. During this moment of severe heartache, I wondered how in the world I could let a few agonizing minutes ruin the hard self-work I had put into myself go to waste.[...]

French Girl Picks: Exploring Chartres

When I moved out of Paris, three months ago I was a little nervous about the new city I chose to live in. I wasn't quite sure if I would love it as much as I told myself I would, and I wasn't sure if we would fit here. Be we have and we did! Everyone here is so lovely and welcoming. If I am going to be honest I would say that it has been a wonderful pleasure getting to know my new home and town. Learning about its past, where the town sees itself going, and how community-oriented this town really is makes transitioning here easier. As you may know, I love[...]

Farmlife

The farmer's life for me Once upon a time if you would have asked me where I wanted to live I would have said something like Boston, NYC, or San Francisco. Sometime during the eight grade I said aloud that I was gonna get a husky and move to Washington state. Needless to say I ended up in Portland, Oregon and it was the most magical place ever. I loved everything about the state and the town. Slowly I began to grow weary of cities, buildings, lack of grass, lack of trees, just lack of everything. Then one day like a seeded flower something grew inside of[...]

French Girl Picks: Tips for Winding down after a Long Day

I am a girl on the go, with a commute time of 53 minutes each way! My day normally begins at 4:50am in the morning and then ends around 10pm. If I can get everything I need done done! I do use a lot of my commute time on the train to complete some paperwork, or plan for the upcoming week. It is time well spent! However, like anyone I also need to relax. If I don't find ways to unwind then the stress kicks in and my anxiety is triggered. Trust me no one wants to be around when that happens. If you are anything like me then your anxiety turns you into a caged a[...]
