Are you a long-term kind of girl or a passer in the night?
Let’s face it, when it comes to relationships either you want long-term or you wanna fling. The question is, however, which one are you? (and do you have to decide?
For purposes of putting each of us into categories, I’m going to use the characters from Sex and the City as a reference. You can compare yourself to the characters to see what kind of relationship girl you are.
There are four different personalities on Sex and the City, I’ll break it down by person.
The strong feminist of the group, who works hard for everything she has. Sure she would like a relationship, but it isn’t one of her top priorities, otherwise, she would have gotten rid of her vibrator. No, Miranda is a woman who knows what she wants she just hasn’t found it yet. She is trying to discover someone to put into that mold she has created for herself. Would she like a long-term relationship? Sure, if it is right. I think it is fair to say that Miranda is that rare bird that is both the relationship girl and the fly-by-the-night kind of gal.
Ah, the girl next door, who wants that American dream of a loving husband, kids, and a lovely home. She will go to the distance for the guy of her dreams, such as changing her religion. Charlotte has an idea in her mind of what her life should and will be like, and darn it she is gonna go after it. This is why she is defiantly a long-term relationship kind of girl. Most of us eventually, well almost most, end up as a Charlotte but that doesn’t mean we can’t act like a Samantha every now and again! (wink, wink)
Samantha is a girl who is fully in charge and knows what she wants. She is strong, confident, and not at all ashamed, or afraid of going after what she desires. Samantha is also a no-fuss kind of girl, and for all intense and purposes the girl who is ok with a passing-in-the-night relationship, she wants to get hers and she is gonna get it. (Get it, girl!) Samantha is defiantly a one-nighter kind of girl.
She wants a relationship but goes looking for it in all the wrong places. I think most girls would fall into this category. Like Charlotte, she is a bit of a romantic but a tad more dramatic. Though sometimes I think she changes her personality based on who she is dating….but that is for another post. Carrie wants all the bells and whistles but without the accessories, like kids. Very Modern! She is most defiantly a relationship girl.
So, regardless of what kind of relationship girl you are, we need to be honest with ourselves and our partners.
In any relationship, regardless of how long it lasts, honesty is the best. Take a hint from Samantha, be upfront and not ashamed of your feelings and values. There is nothing wrong with wanting a long-term relationship when you are ready and equally there is nothing wrong with being a passing ship. It’s your life, live it.
“To thy own self be true”, Hamlet by William Shakespeare
Own what you want! Be the girl you want to be, regardless of what others may think or say. At the end of the day, as Sheryl Crow once said, “If it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad”.
